Distracted by the Tests

Luke 9:57-62

~ Luke 9:62     But Jesus said to him, “No one, after putting his hand to the plow and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”

Stats ~

  • One out of every four car accidents in the United States is caused by texting and driving.
  • Nearly 390,000 injuries occur each year from accidents caused by texting while driving.
  • In 2017 ~ 3,166 people killed due to texting and driving.
  • Texting while driving is six times more likely to cause an accident than driving while drunk.

The Cost of following Jesus tests our walk with Jesus.

Refuse to be distracted by the Cost of following Jesus!

~ Luke 9:23     And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.

~ Luke 13:3     I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

~ John 15:18   “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you.

The Secular World tests our walk with Jesus.

Refuse to be distracted by the Secular World.

~ I John 2:15- 17         Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17 The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

Our Relationships test our walk with Jesus.

Refuse to be distracted by Relationships.

~ II Corinthians 6:14-16         Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? 16 Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said,

“I will dwell in them and walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.

Irresistible Service

Mark 10:45

~ Luke 22:27                For who is greater, the one who reclines at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who reclines at the table? But I am among you as the one who serves.

~Philippians 2:5-8       Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Vision Statement ~ To be God’s People, transformed by the Gospel of Christ into an Irresistible Community of Love, Discipleship, and Service.

Selflessness places the Needs of Others above our own.

~ Philippians 2:3-4       Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Irresistible Service requires Willingness!

Willingness steps up to do Whatever!

~ Colossians 3:17         Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

~ Colossians 3:23        Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,

The Irresistible Love of Jesus Forgives others!

~ Luke 23:34                But Jesus was saying, “Father, forgive them; for they do not know what they are doing.” And they cast lots, dividing up His garments among themselves.

Forgiving Love makes four promises:
