Praise Prevails

II Chronicles 20


~ Hebrews 13:15                     Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.


Praise the Lord with Confidence!

Confidence turns to the Lord!

~ Psalm 91:1-2            He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust!”


~ Psalm 118:8             It is better to take refuge in the Lord
Than to trust in man.


Confidence seeks the Lord!

~ Matthew 6:16            “Whenever you fast, do not put on a gloomy face as the hypocrites do, for they neglect their appearance so that they will be noticed by men when they are fasting. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full.


~ Matthew 6:17-18     But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face 18 so that your fasting will not be noticed by men, but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.



Praise the Lord in Prayer!

Praise in prayer focuses on God’s Sovereignty.

~ Revelation 19:6        Then I heard something like the voice of a great multitude and like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty peals of thunder, saying,

“Hallelujah! For the Lord our God, the Almighty, reigns.


~ Job 42:2                   “I know that You can do all things,
And that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.


Praise in prayer focuses on God’s Power.

~ Genesis 18:14          Is anything too difficult for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, at this time next year, and Sarah will have a son.”


~ Numbers 11:23         The Lord said to Moses, “Is the Lord’s power limited? Now you shall see whether My word will come true for you or not.”


~ Jeremiah 32:17         ‘Ah Lord God! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You,


~ Matthew 19:26         And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”


~ Luke 1:37                 For nothing will be impossible with God.


~ Philippians 4:13        I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.



Praise the Lord in Song!

Singing to the Lord centers the focus on the Lord!

~ Ephesians 5:19         speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord;


~ Colossians 3:16         Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God.


Singing to the Lord anticipates His victory!

~ I Corinthians 15:57              but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Radical Obedience

II Kings 22 – 23:30


~ James 1:22               But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves.


A Tender Heart Loves God’s Word.

A love for God’s Word expresses passion for God’s Word.

~ Psalm 1:2                 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.


~ Psalm 119:97           O how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.


A love for God’s Word expresses respect for God’s Word.

~ James 1:22-23          But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks at his natural face in a mirror;


A love for God’s Word expresses a promise to keep God’s Word.

~ John 14:15   “If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.


~ John 14:21    He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me; and he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.”



A Tender Heart pursues God’s Word.

Pursue God’s Word with Completeness.

~ Joshua 1:8                This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.


Pursue God’s Word with Zeal.

~ Luke 13:3                 I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.


~ Revelation 3:19        Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; therefore be zealous and repent.



A Tender Heart experiences God’s Word.

Obedience to God’s Word brings Restoration.

~ Acts 3:19                   Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;


Obedience to God’s Word brings Peace.

~ John 14:27               Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful.

Sermon Outline, June 16, 2019, “Positive People”

Positive People

Acts 4:36; Acts 11:19-29

~ I Thessalonians 5:11            Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.


~ I Thessalonians 5:14             We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.


Encourage one another with your Heart.

A Thoughtful Heart encourages others.

~ I Corinthians 13:5    does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,


~ Philippians 2:4         do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.


A Generous Heart encourages others.

~ Matthew 5:42            Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.


~ Matthew 10:8           Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.


~ Luke 6:30                 Give to everyone who asks of you, and whoever takes away what is yours, do not demand it back.


~ Luke 6:38                 Give, and it will be given to you. They will pour into your lap a good measure—pressed down, shaken together, and running over. For by your standard of measure it will be measured to you in return.”


A Supportive Heart encourages others.

~ I Corinthians 13:7    bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.


~ Philippians 1:6         For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.



Encourage one another with your Words.

Truthful Words encourage others.

~ Ephesians 4:25         Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.


Grace-filled Words encourage others.

~ Ephesians 4:15         but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,


~ Ephesians 4:29         Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.



Encourage one another with your Person.

A Humble Person encourages others.

~ Romans 12:10          Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;


~ Romans 12:16          Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.


A Holy Spirit-Filled Person encourages others.

~ Galatians 5:22-23    But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.


~ Romans 8:13            for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.


A Trustworthy Person encourages others.

~ Proverbs 18:24         A man of too many friends comes to ruin,
But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

A Sacred Gift

Genesis 39

~ I Peter 1:15-16         but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; 16 because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”


Value the Gift!

Value the Surface of the Gift!

~ I Corinthians 6:19-20           Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? 20 For you have been bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body.


~ I Corinthians 6:18                Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body.


Value the Substance of the Gift!

~ Matthew 5:8                         Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.


~ Proverbs 23:7                       For as he thinks within himself, so he is.
He says to you, “Eat and drink!”
But his heart is not with you.


~ II Corinthians 10:5               We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,


~ Philippians 4:8                     Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things.



Guard the Gift!

Guard the Gift Constantly!

~ Job 31:1                   I have made a covenant with my eyes;
How then could I gaze at a virgin?


~ Psalm 119:11           Your word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against You.


~ Romans 12:2            And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.


Guard the Gift Resolutely!

~ Mark 9:43, 45, 47    If your hand causes you to stumble, cut it off; it is better for you to enter life crippled, than, having your two hands, to go into hell, into the unquenchable fire,


~ Romans 8:13             for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.



Reserve the Gift!

Reserve the Gift for God!

~ II Corinthians 7:1                 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all defilement of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.


Reserve the Gift for your Testimony for Jesus Christ!

~ I Thessalonians 4:3-4          For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; that each of you know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,
