The Unexpected Pedicure

John 13:1-20

~ Mark 10:45               For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Serve with Humility!

Humility thinks of others Before Self.

~ Philippians 2:3-4      Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Humility places others Above Self.

~ Philippians 2:5-8       Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

~ Romans 12:10          Be devoted to one another in brotherly love; give preference to one another in honor;

~ Romans 12:16          Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.

Serve with Love!

Love serves Willingly.

~ Colossians 3:23        Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men,

~ Ecclesiastes 9:10       Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no activity or planning or knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you are going.

Love does Whatever.

~ Colossians 3:17        Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father.

Serve with Influence!

Influence takes the First Step.

~ Matthew 20:28          just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.

Influence provides the Example, not the Exception.

~ Matthew 28:20        teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

~ Luke 12:48              but the one who did not know it, and committed deeds worthy of a flogging, will receive but few. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.

Sermon Outline, March 24, 2019, “Trust God’s Protection”

Trust God’s Protection

Daniel 6

~ Psalm 91:1-4            He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
Will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
My God, in whom I trust!”
For it is He who delivers you from the snare of the trapper
And from the deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with His pinions,
And under His wings you may seek refuge;
His faithfulness is a shield and bulwark.

God protects from Jealousy!

Jealous people attempt to destroy!

~ James 3:15-16          This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.

God protects through Contentment!

~ Philippians 4:11        Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.

God protects from Critics!

Critics attempt to destroy!

~ James 3:14-16          But if you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. 15 This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. 16 For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing.

God protects through the Truth!

~ John 8:32      and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.

God protects from Hate!

Hateful people attempt to destroy!

~ I Peter 5:8                Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

~ John 10:10               The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.

God protects our Soul!

~ Psalm 121:7            The Lord will protect you from all evil;
He will keep your soul.

~ II Timothy 4:18       The Lord will rescue me from every evil deed, and will bring me safely to His heavenly kingdom; to Him be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

~ Romans 8:37-39       But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Sermon Outline, March 17, 2019, “Faith Tested by Fire”

God provides through His Power!

God saves in the Test.

God saves us from the Tester!

~ Revelation 12:10      Then I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying,

“Now the salvation, and the power, and the kingdom of our God and the authority of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, he who accuses them before our God day and night.

~ Ephesians 1:7           In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

~ Revelation 20:10       And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and [a]brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

God provides His Grace!

God’s grace gives us what we need!

~ Ephesians 2:8            For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

~ Romans 3:24            being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus;

~ Romans 5:20            The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more,

~ II Corinthians 12:9    And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.

~ Titus 2:11                 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men,

God’s grace provides His Presence!

~ Romans 8:13            for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

~ Romans 8:26-27       In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

~ Revelation 21:4         and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”

God provides with His Sovereignty!

God’s purpose exceeds all other Purposes!

Romans 8:28-29          And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose. 29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren;

God’s purpose exceeds our Understanding!

~ Proverbs 3:5-6        Trust in the Lord with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.

Go Forward in Faith!

~ Philippians 3:12-14              Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Another Normal Reaction to a Predicament is Despair!

The Faith of David

I Samuel 17:41-51

~ I John 5:4-5  For whatever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.  Who is the one who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Victorious Faith is Obedient.

Obedient Faith is Immediate.

~ Exodus 20:12           Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be prolonged in the land which the Lord your God gives you.

Obedient Faith is Complete.

~ I John 2:4-5              The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; but whoever keeps His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him:

Victorious Faith is Confident.

Confident Faith is in the Person of God.

Courageous Faith is Bold.

~ Matthew 17:20         And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

Courageous Faith is Contagious.

~ Hebrews 12:1-2       Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
