Sermon Outline, October 28, 2018, “Faith in Christ”

Faith in Christ

Romans 10:9-10

~ Hebrews 11:6           And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.

The Object of Faith is Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is Worthy of our faith!

~ Romans 1:4              who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord,

~ Matthew 16:16         Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

~ Philippians 2:9-11     For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus Christ must be the Object of our faith!

~ Proverbs 11:28         He who trusts in his riches will fall,
But the righteous will flourish like the green leaf.

~ Jeremiah 17:5          Thus says the Lord,
“Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind
And makes flesh his strength,
And whose heart turns away from the Lord.

~ Romans 10:11          For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

The Essence of Faith is Trust.

First level of Faith is Assent.

~ I Corinthians 15:3-4             For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,

Second level of Faith is Trust.

~ James 2:19               You believe that God is one. You do well; the demons also believe, and shudder.

~ Isaiah 1:18               “Come now, and let us reason together,”
Says the Lord,
“Though your sins are as scarlet,
They will be as white as snow;
Though they are red like crimson,
They will be like wool.

~ Romans 6:4               Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism into death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

The Evidence of Faith is Surrender.

Evidence of Faith is Internal Surrender.

~ Matthew 7:21           “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter.

Evidence of Faith is External Surrender.

~ Matthew 7:20           So then, you will know them by their fruits.

The Result of Faith is Conditional.

Salvation in Christ is Conditional upon our Response.

~ I John 1:7                 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

~ Matthew 16:16         Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Faith in Christ is NOT the only conditional response for salvation.

~ James 2:24               You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.

~ Acts 3:19                  Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;

~ Romans 10:9            that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

~ Mark 16:16               He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

~ Acts 2:38                  Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

~ I Peter 3:21               Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
