Sermon Outline, April 8, 2018, “Extending the Heart of Jesus”

Extending the Heart of Jesu

Luke 24:44-53

Extend the Gospel of Jesus with Conviction.

Conviction springs from a Credible Message.

~ Romans 1:16            For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.

~ I Corinthians 9:23     I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.

~ I Corinthians 1:23     but we preach Christ crucified, to Jews a stumbling block and to Gentiles foolishness,

~ I Corinthians 2:2      For I determined to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ, and Him crucified.

Conviction flows from Personal Confidence in the Credible Message.

~ I Corinthians 1:18    For the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

~ I Corinthians 1:21    For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, God was well-pleased through the foolishness of the message preached to save those who believe.

~ Acts 4:12      And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved.

Extend the Gospel of Jesus with Purpose.

The Gospel Message extends a Significant Purpose.

~ Luke 13:3     I tell you, no, but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.

~ Proverbs 6:16-19     There are six things which the Lord hates,
Yes, seven which are an abomination to Him:
17 Haughty eyes, a lying tongue,
And hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that run rapidly to evil,
19 A false witness who utters lies,
And one who spreads strife among brothers.

~ Psalm 51:1-2, 7        Be gracious to me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity
And cleanse me from my sin.

7 Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean;

Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

The Gospel message provides Personal Purpose.

~ I Peter 2:24  and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

~ I John 1:7     but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.

~ Psalm 103:12           As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

~ Ephesians 1:7           In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

~ I John 1:9     If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Extend the Gospel of Jesus with Confidence.

Be confident in Jesus’ Promise.

~ John 15:26   When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me,

~ Acts 2:38       Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

~ I Corinthians 6:19    Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?

~ Romans 8:13            for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Be confident in the Power of Jesus’ Promise.

~ Acts 1:8        but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”

~ Ephesians 3:20          Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us,
