Heart Surgery

Luke 3:1-20

Repentance is Necessary for the Forgiveness of Sins.

Forgiveness of sins is Conditional.

~ Acts 3:19      Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;

Forgiveness of sins is given to those who Repent.

~ Acts 2:38      Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

~ Psalm 103:12           As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

~ Ephesians 1:7           In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace

~ I John 1:9     If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Repentance is Necessary to Reflect the Heart of Jesus.

Selflessness reflects the Heart of Jesus.

~ Philippians 2:5-8      Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

~ Philippians 2:3-4      Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.

Honesty reflects the Heart of Jesus.

~ Ephesians 4:25         Therefore, laying aside falsehood, speak truth each one of you with his neighbor, for we are members of one another.

Respectfulness reflects the Heart of Jesus.

~ I Peter 2:17  Honor all people, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the king.

Contentment reflects the Heart of Jesus.

~ Philippians 4:11       Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.

Repentance is Necessary to Avoid God’s Wrath.

God’s Wrath is Certain.

~ Galatians 5:19-21     Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

~ Revelation 21:8        But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

God’s Wrath consists of Separation.

~ Matthew 25:31-34, 41          “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33 and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.

34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;

God’s Wrath consists of Torment.

~ Revelation 14:11      And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”

~ Revelation 20:15       And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

~ Revelation 21:8        But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

God’s Wrath lasts for Eternity.

~ Revelation 14:11      And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever; they have no rest day and night, those who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”
