Sermon Outline, December 17, 2017, “Sources of Joy”

                                                           Sources of Joy

 Luke 1:57-80

Philippians 4:4             Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice!

Rejoice in the Lord’s Goodness!

Acknowledge God’s Goodness.

~ James 1:17   Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Celebrate God’s Goodness!

~ Romans 12:15           Rejoice with those who rejoice, and weep with those who weep.

Rejoice in the Lord’s Purpose.

The lack of Purpose leads to a lack of Joy.

~ Jeremiah 29:11        For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

Having Purpose is a Source of Joy.

~ Jeremiah 29:11        For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.

Rejoice in the Lord’s Salvation.

Rejoice in His Fulfilled Promise of Salvation.

~ Genesis 22:18          In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.”

~ Isaiah 53:4-6            Surely our griefs He Himself bore, And our sorrows He carried; Yet we ourselves esteemed Him stricken, Smitten of God, and afflicted. But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, Each of us has turned to his own way; But the Lord has caused the iniquity of us all To fall on Him.

Rejoice in His Victorious Salvation.

~ Romans 8:1-4           Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death. For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

~ Romans 8:35, 37-39            Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

37 But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

~ Hebrews 2:14           Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,

~ I Corinthians 15:54-57         But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
