Remove the Rock of Anger

James 1:19-20

James 1:20        for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God.

Be Aware!

Be Aware of God’s Word.

~ Galatians 5:19-21      Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

~ Colossians 3:8          But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth.

Be aware of Characteristics of Sinful Anger.

~ Proverbs 14:17         A quick-tempered man acts foolishly, And a man of evil devices is hated.

Be Aware of the Results of Anger.

~ Ephesians 4:29          Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.

~ Proverbs 22:24-25    Do not associate with a man given to anger; Or go with a hot-tempered man, 25 Or you will learn his ways And find a snare for yourself.

Be Cautious!

Emotional Withdrawal is a negative way to handle anger.

~ Ephesians 4:26-27    Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, 27 and do not give the devil an opportunity.

Peer Recruitment is a negative way to handle anger.

~ Proverbs 17:9           He who conceals a transgression seeks love, But he who repeats a matter separates intimate friends.

Vengeance is a negative way to handle anger.

~ Romans 12:17          Never pay back evil for evil to anyone.  Respect what is right in the sight of all men.

Be Wise!

Exercise Much Patience!

~ James 1:19   This you know, my beloved brethren. But everyone must be quick to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger;

Trust God’s Justice!

~ Romans 12:19-21     Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. 20 “But if your enemy is hungry, feed him, and if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in so doing you will heap burning coals on his head.” 21 Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Respond with Love.

~ I Corinthians 13:5    does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered,

~ Proverbs 19:11         A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger, And it is his glory to overlook a transgression.
