Sermon Outline, January 15, 2017, “Resilient”
Suffering is Certain.
~ Job 14:1 Man, who is born of woman, Is short-lived and full of turmoil.
~ John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.
Suffering is a Test.
~ James 1:12 Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.
Suffering is Temporary.
~ Psalm 30:5 For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, But a shout of joy comes in the morning.
Be Brave in the Face of Suffering.
~ Matthew 10:28 Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
Be Brave in the Face of Death.
~ Ecclesiastes 12:7 then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it.
~ II Corinthians 5:6, 8 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord—
8we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.
~ Psalm 116:15 Precious in the sight of the Lord Is the death of His godly ones.
Focus on Christ’s Eternal Nature.
~ John 11:25, 26 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,
~ I Corinthians 15:53-57 For this perishable must put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when this perishable will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on immortality, then will come about the saying that is written, “Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is your victory? O death, where is your sting?” 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law; 57 but thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Focus on Christ’s Reward.
~ Revelation 20:14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire.
~ Revelation 21:8 But for the cowardly and unbelieving and abominable and murderers and immoral persons and sorcerers and idolaters and all liars, their part will be in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
~ John 14:1-3 Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. 3 If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.
