Sermon Outline, August 28, 2016, “Jesus Changes Your Heart”

Jesus Changes Your Heart

Romans 12:9-21

The Heart of Jesus reflects Love.

Love demonstrates Selflessness.

~ Philippians 2:4         “. . . do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”

Love demonstrates Humility.

~ Philippians 2:3         “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves . . .”

~ Romans 12:16          “Be of the same mind toward one another; do not be haughty in mind, but associate with the lowly. Do not be wise in your own estimation.”

The Heart of Jesus reflects Patience!

Be patient in Service.

~ Colossians 3:23-24   “Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance. It is the Lord Christ whom you serve.”

~ I Corinthians 15:58  “Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your toil is not in vain in the Lord.”

Be patient in Tribulation.

~ Hebrews 6:19           “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil . . .”

~ I Thessalonians 5:17 “. . . pray without ceasing . . .”

~ Ephesians 6:18         “With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints . . .”

~ James 1:12               “Blessed is a man who perseveres under trial; for once he has]been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”

The Heart of Jesus reflects Peace!

Peace trusts God’s Justice.

~ Proverbs 20:22         “Do not say, ‘I will repay evil’; Wait for the Lord, and He will save you.”

Peace pursues Goodness.

~ Matthew 5:39-44     “But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also. 41 Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you. 43 You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you . . .”
