Sermon Outline, August 7, 2016, “Jesus is Greater than Hate”
Jesus is Greater than Hate
I John 4:7-21
God’s Love is Powerful!
Powerful Love gives Selflessly!
~ Philippians 2:3-4 “Do nothing from selfishness or empty conceit, but with humility of mind regard one another as more important than yourselves; 4 do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others.”
Powerful Love gives Purposefully!
~ I Peter 2:24 “. . . and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.”
~ Romans 8:13 “. . . for if you are living according to the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live.”
God’s Love is Proactive!
God’s Love makes the First Move!
~ Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
God’s Love continues to Reach Out!
~ Luke 17:4 “And if he sins against you seven times a day, and returns to you seven times, saying, ‘I repent,’ forgive him.”
~ II Timothy 2:13 “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.”
God’s Love is Protective!
God’s Love protects from Wrath!
~ John 3:16-18 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18 He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
~ Romans 5:2 “through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.”
~ Romans 8:31-32 “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?”
God’s Love protects from Fear!
~ Romans 8:33-34 “Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; 34 who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is He who died, yes, rather who was raised, who is at the right hand of God, who also intercedes for us.”
