Sermon Outline, July 10, 2016, “Jesus is Greater than Sin.”
Jesus is Greater than Sin
I John 1:1 – 2:2
Jesus offers Fellowship.
Fellowship with Jesus is the Purpose of His First Coming.
~ II Corinthians 5:18-19 “ Now all these things are from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 namely, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and He has committed to us the word of reconciliation.”
Fellowship with Jesus is the Purpose of Evangelism.
~ Acts 1:8 “. . . but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.”
Jesus offers Forgiveness.
Jesus offers forgiveness through His Blood.
~ Ephesians 1:7 “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace . . .”
~ I Peter 1:18-19 “. . . knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19 but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.”
Jesus offers forgiveness through our Confession.
~ Psalm 32:5 “I acknowledged my sin to You, And my iniquity I did not hide; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord”; And You forgave the guilt of my sin. Selah.”
Jesus offers Faithfulness.
Jesus demonstrates Faithfulness.
~ Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”
~ II Corinthians 1:20 “For as many as are the promises of God, in Him they are yes; therefore also through Him is our Amen to the glory of God through us.”
~ Matthew 28:20 “. . . teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
~ Hebrews 13:5 “Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, ‘I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you . . .’”
Jesus demonstrates faithfulness to us even when we sin.
~ II Timothy 2:13 “If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.”
~ Hebrews 6:4-6 “For in the case of those who have once been enlightened and have tasted of the heavenly gift and have been made partakers of the Holy Spirit, 5 and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, 6 and then have fallen away, it is impossible to renew them again to repentance, since they again crucify to themselves the Son of God and put Him to open shame.”
~ Hebrews 10:26 “ For if we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins . . .”
