The Last Word – Romans 8:31-39

In the late 1980’s, songwriter Aaron Baker wrote “A Love Without End, Amen.” The song became a number one hit for George Strait. The inspiration for the song came when Aaron’s son got his first car at the age of 16. Eventually, Aaron’s son broke his father’s rules and wrecked the car. Aaron Baker decided it was time to have a heart to heart with his son. He wrestled with how to discipline his son yet let him know he loved him. Aaron Baker said it then occurred to him that is how God loves us! And the chorus of the song was born:
“Let me tell you a secret about a father’s love,
a secret that my daddy said was just between us.”
He said, “Daddies don’t just love their children every now and then.
It’s a love without end, amen; it’s a love without end, amen.”

God does not love us every now and then! God loves us now and forever! The measure of his love is undeniable. Jesus made sure of that. The most well known verse in the Bible states, “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” John 3:16
God was willing to give his Son to the world because he loves us. There is nothing that can separate us from his love. The apostle Paul makes this clear in Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord”.
In Romans 8:31, Paul asks a question, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” The answer is simple…No one because as Aaron Baker wrote, it’s a love without end…amen!
