Hope Secured – Romans 8:1-13

Paul gives us great news in Romans 8! He begins by reassuring us that we are free from judgment and disapproval, but only because of what Christ has done for us. What a joy to have a clear conscience despite all that we have done wrong in our lives. God did this by sending his own Son to be an offering to take our place.

“Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death.” Romans 8:1-2

Today we hear politicians say that Christians and Muslims seem to worship the same God. This is not true today and has never been true! Only we have the Holy Spirit as a gift from Christ-the risen Messiah. The Dome of the Rock Islamic shine on the Temple Mount bears the false teaching: “God did not have a Son.” Paul makes clear salvation is only through the Son of God and the Spirit lives exclusively in those who belong to Christ: Romans 8:9-10

“You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, then even though your body is subject to death because of sin, the Spirit gives life because of righteousness.”

What is the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit is not a vague shadow nor an impersonal force. It is equal in every way with God the Father and God the Son. The Spirit is considered to be the third member of the Godhead.
The Holy Spirit was given to live inside those who believe in Jesus, in order to produce God’s character in the life of a believer. In a way that we cannot do on our own, the Holy Spirit will build into our lives love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
