Truth About Homosexuality – I Corinthians 6:9-11
The recent Supreme Court ruling on same sex marriage has put homosexuality and other gender issues in a big spot light. Their actions are forcing us as a nation to look at homosexuality. We are now not allowed to discriminate against homosexuals for any reason and we are required to accept them as married couples.
No matter what the Supreme Court says, the Bible says that homosexuality and other sexually immoral acts are a sin. Leviticus 18 describes a number of sexually immoral behaviors. Leviticus 18:22 says “Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman, that is detestable.” Webster defines the word detestable as “arousing or meriting intense dislike: abominable”. Likewise, abominable is defined as “worthy of or causing disgust or hatred”. Homosexually is a sin that stirs the emotions of many people. Sexual immorality continues to be mentioned throughout the Bible as something that is displeasing to God.
Today, homosexuality more than any other sin, with the possible exception of abortion, stirs up much emotion in people. The only reason I can come up with as the cause for this elevated level of response is this: we are being required by the homosexual community, the court system and many, many individuals to say that homosexuality is not a sin. This goes against God’s Word; it goes against the truth.
However, regardless of the emotion level this detestable sin creates within you, we also must remember it is God’s will that we love the sinner and not the sin. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. And dare I say some of us have done any number of detestable sins in the eyes of God. As a Christian, we are expected to share the love of God and the story of salvation with homosexuals and all sinners. The Word of God can soften hearts and change lives. The Truth has the power to remove detestable sin from peoples’ lives. Don’t let your emotions keep you from sharing the love of Jesus with those who need to hear it most.
