I wanted to take the opportunity to share with everyone what is going on in our college age ministry. For the last 9 years, our college ministry has been meeting on Sunday nights in a “small group” format. We get together for a meal and then participate in a Bible Study and discussion. Our “small group” really has become a large group of sometimes upwards of 30 people. Recently, myself and some of the student leaders in our group, have been talking about a possible change to the format of our weekly meeting. These changes started taking place in early June.
The format changed from meeting in a home to meeting at church. We feel that for new people, it is sometimes awkward to try to invite them to someone else’s house, but they feel more comfortable coming to church. We will still have a small group element to our time together on Sunday nights, but there will be other elements as well. Our new format will be more of a “coffee house” type setting. We will have coffee and desserts available to people upon their arrival. After a time of fellowship, we will join together in a time of acoustic worship. Following worship, myself or one of the other leaders will get up and give a 10-minute devotion. Following that, students will separate into table groups and have a discussion based on the devotion. Each table will have a discussion leader who will be provided with discussion questions.
We are really excited about this new format for our college students. Another thing that I didn’t mention is that this program will be for college AND post-college young adults. We hope that with God’s blessing and help, we will be able to plant seeds and reach people who don’t yet know Christ. Will you join with us in prayer for this new program?
